Wow!  What a cool place! Chicago Athletic Association..a club anyone can belong to.

I love history and this place is packed with it!!  Originally opened in 1893 as an All- Men’s private club.  It remained this until 2005 when it closed its doors.  But not for good…. a decade goes by…and then it

Opened again in 2015 as the Chicago Athletic Association.  A boutique hotel with such historical significance and remarkably renovated that it takes you back in time.

The beauty is in the details.  History plays into every detail of this place.  From the cocktail & restaurant menus that are inspired by menus from the 1890’s.  The old menus were dug up from the New York Public Library and were the inspiration to the updated menus and cocktail offerings. Even the elevator is unique.. they have lined the elevators with the wood from the old squash courts.

The interior is fantastic, the millwork and craftsmanship are impeccably done..honestly museum quality.  Each of the hotel rooms repurposes elements from the athletic club.

Featuring great robes and product from C.O Bigelow..who tout their company as being the oldest apothecary in America.

A very interesting aspect of this place was the Game Room..hopping with the 30somethings playing billiards and shuffleboard.  Or just a great pace to order a bourbon and cheers over a game of bocce ball in an upscale clubby environment.

As if the aesthetics of this place isn’t enough..  the best part of the place is the rooftop bar named Cindy’s.  It has fast become THE hotspot rooftop bar.  Here you can get a great section of bourbon (I always check this out since being from Kentucky).  The room has a vaulted glass ( I’ve heard if you are there at lunchtime on sunny day.. you may need your shades!) and the space has fantastic views of Millennium Park and the Art Institute and most impressive view of Lake Michigan. Here is their website!

Location Location Location.. can’t get much better than this place.  It is in the heart of downtown.  Can’t get any better, it is on Michigan Avenue smack dab in the midst of everything!

Reasonable rates!  Great libations!  Great service! Great décor!

And packed with History.  What more could you want!

I highly recommend.

and you have to love a sense of humor .. spotted on the blanket at the foot of my bed!

I have to agree with you there!
